...up to date with twitter and feed. What? the League One play off...(I wanted to listen to the Test).
I am so glad I wasn't involved, it was bad enough against Sunderland, but I couldn't have been either Huddersfield or Sheffield United's supporters today and the drama of the penaltes! Finally after 120 minutes of game, the final score was 8 - 7 to Huddersfield on penalties scored, with the final Blades penalty being missed by their goalie, after saving their bacon, several times, during the match.
I know it might seem easy, when I can say from the position of champions, but I do feel for all Sheffield United fans...it's a cruel way to lose, especially when their city rivals grabbed automatic promotion in the last weeks of the season. I wish them well and automatic promotion next season, as unwanted as that is right now. Good luck to Huddersfield...we'll see you next season!
And the Test!? Well, just finishing for the day...and after clearing the last four WIndies wickets, and a little bit of a sticky start...another ton for Strauss and Pietersen 72 off 100 balls, both back tomorrow....

A completely...
...good week!
Monday was our wedding anniversary...thirty five years young and still happy. Like most we have had highs and lows, but the lows haven't been depths, and are usually because of something daft and not meaningful. We took ourselves off to Dereham, (not the highlight capital of Norfolk), but we just wanted to do something normal, as we're usually at opposite ends of Anglia for the week, so try to cram all into weekends. It's a pleasant town and has the joy of "Steptoes"...second-hand furniture store which can hide gems...we turned up two, which came home with us, so our kitchen is now complete...after two years.
Whilst in France I found a market stall selling linen, how can you not buy some...so having washed and pressed it, I started making the cushions for Drove Orchard Fair...7th May is the day. I will be taking some photos...so please be patient. There will be other items too.
Then to top the week Charlton (already promoted) were crowned champions, with the possibility of taking another record...highest League One points tally. So, with a manager who is in his first managerial job...and a team of nearly all new players, who didn't need time to gel or learn how to play together...(beautiful excuses), they did it and showed those who doubted exactly what they were made of! I hope all doubters are eating humble pie... All you need is belief...

And....
...we did it!!
Well, that's the royal we and not the actual 'I kicked the ball' we. Though I feel as though I've kicked every ball of the season so far...but, joy overflows. Now to relax and go up as champions....pretty please!
And...I'm also back from visiting Provence. Two weeks in the sunshine can't be bad, even if it was for working too.

Damp...
...at last!
After such scorching weather the rain fell softly yesterday.
Wimbledon is over...the World Cup is over...and Spain is celebrating. Of course, we did have winners at Wimbledon with two young men winning the Boys Double title, and we did have representation on the World Cup final pitch with Howard Webb refereeing. Blame and accusation have started...as has the pre-season friendlies. My team lost on Saturday to AFC Wimbledon, and won tonight at Welling United, but these are exercises...no clue to the performances to come with so many changes and substitutions throughout the matches...but tonight saw the return of Jon Fortune (yay), maybe only for this...but I'd bite your hand off to get him back, and then there's the forthcoming talk with Christian Dailly...mix those staying with new signings and youngsters, that defence could be stronger than last year.
I've been looking to go to Kettering, but ticket information seems a little scarce...
I nearly went to Lynn tonight to watch the match between the newly reformed King's Lynn club and a Norwich City XI...I wish I had now...Lynn won 2 - 0. Norwich put a team of academy and senior players who didn't travel to Germany out. I'll watch both teams with interest.
My local team, Fakenham Town, haven't started their pre-season yet...

I'm trying...
...to rake up enough enthusiasm and energy to walk to work, I did work until midnight last night, having given myself the evening off to watch my team in the League One play off semi final, we lost on penalties having gone into the second leg behind and having then played ourselves into a lead last night, we had a loose moment in defence and their eighteen year old became a hero for the second match, to draw them level. I hate penalty shoot outs, I always have...some say they give the game excitement, but I've always detested them, ever since their inception. So it's not sour grapes because we lost, and I'm not sure how you'd replace them either...I'm not a mover and shaker within the game! Maybe the third team should be promoted...in this case Millwall, after all they did get the points! Okay, so shoot me!
So now, where does that leave my beloved team...if you read certain accounts, from certain papers...we have a whistle blower...since when have we had those? We had always been a friendly, family orientated, well run club...held up as such, but now we have, reportedly, a whistle blower?! Or cause for one...which is more to the point! I'm sure some will take great delight in that...but, as supporters of the game of football, not your or my specific allegiance, we have to wonder where this game of ours is going. With parachute payments for the clubs coming down from the Premier League set to rise to £48m over four years from £16m over two, where exactly does that leave everyone else!? We know from experience being relegated is expensive, trying to cut your cloth accordingly for the income of a lower league, and those contracts with players and managers are signed in blood it seems....air tight, water tight, and fireproof! And if you subsisted on the weekly turnover of the Premier League...you might be lucky if you can keep your team together for a push straight back, probably though you couldn't. Then you need to gather together a team to be ready for the next season, that bouncing straight back...but, you have to have them in place, playing together from the outset...and that's not always possible, throw in some injuries during a season and...you see where this goes... That £48m even at £12m a year is a good starting point to keeping your team or the nucleus of it, together. Go lower and what's happened to Leeds over the last few years shows what can happen. To get the right manager with the right players at the right time...it's expertise, isn't it? Or maybe just plain luck!
So last night...Nicky Bailey missed one penalty, one shot of the game...one second in a lifetime. It was cruel...he was devastated...but, at least he was brave enough to put himself there, to place that ball on that little white spot and try... Me? I wouldn't have even been able to pick the ball up, let alone run and kick the thing.
So I hope he'll be there next season to lead, but I have a feeling he won't be...I hope the team that played their hearts out last might will be there, but they won't be, either returning to their home clubs from loan...or moving on. And please don't say Liverpool to me! What about our youngsters?

Sometime ago...
...I received an email, of which the contents came as more than a little surprise! This was the middle of January...
After picking myself up off the floor, and taking a few days to think about things, I replied...giving a positive answer.
It then went quiet for nearly two months, and I thought that was it. Suddenly another email arrived apologising for the delay, and was I still okay for things.
My correspondent was a guy called Gary Haines, and to lots that will mean absolutely nothing...to a few they'll recognise the name. A couple more emails passed between us, and it led to me being featured in my team's programme, on the "Fan Focus" page for the Monday game against Carlisle.
Yes, that was me.
I think I'm still in shock...
PS...we also won!

It's all in...
...a day, as they say.
They also say...football's a funny old game!
On a day when West Ham have new owners, with the revelations of how deep their debt was, what the plans for their future are...Portsmouth have lost their court case against delaying a winding up order. Those gentleman on television talk of a change in the city of Manchester. I would think there'd have to be a bit more history before that happens...money doesn't history buy. My team...Charlton, have announced no price increase for next season tickets, if bought before the end of March, and the availability of some five hundred five year season tickets, and PP said Nicky Bailey wasn't going anywhere!
I'm sitting multi-tasking...writing, listening and watching...and cheering!
Also one of my local teams, who went out of business before Christmas, are being resurrected. Their new owner is the owner of the King's Lynn Speedway team...so out of disaster a new future comes for King's Lynn...
I've been busy making my little spacers in a variety of colours...they're the little beads which can be used in many ways.

A little work...
...done this morning.
You'll have to forgive, but it's a one of those annoying "work in progress" reports...
Wayward Rose
A bit of an overhaul of my site was needed, and I've taken this morning to redo the foundations...(I have my reasons for choosing this morning).
Apart from that, for anyone watching my football mutterings...we have Hereford United away in the Carling Cup. Annoyingly it's an evening match, played on either Tuesday 11 or Wednesday 12 August. I like Hereford, it's a lovely city and wouldn't have minded a visit for a weekend.

This weekend...
...we didn't go far.
Saturday morning I took my husband round my Walden haunts...the local charity shops, furniture shops, gift/house shops, and the reclaimed furniture shop... I pointed out the dearest little cup and saucer set in my favourite charity shop, and with no price showing, he went to ask...£2.50 says the lady. Each? I suggest...there were six...no, for the six, she answered...they are now safely stored away, but I might have to take a photo or two, just to show.
We looked at bits and bobs in other places, but nothing took...then we reached the reclaimed furniture, and with lifting of several lids and checking, looked through the blanket boxes and chests...a beautiful little pedestal dinner table...and a spindle high-backed chair. We came away with none...we daren't have more furniture to move, the van will be creaking already, but it gave food for thought, and now my second-hand ramblings have added verve. We ended in my favourite home soft furnishings/gift shop...Lottie Mutton, who doesn't have a website, so I can't show. They make beautiful blinds and curtains, and it's the remnant box downstairs I rummage through. It's not the cheapest fabric, but if you want exceptional pieces...and the rest of the shop is a delight. (photos to follow)
My afternoon was spent making sure the Gills won...Sunday was a day of doing nothing other than embroidery, and flicking between England beating the Windies, Scunny beating Millwall, and Villa beating Newcastle. Monday came and so did most of our family...here to help empty the garage so we can sort what they've left, and throw anything else not wanted...and emptying the loft...(there isn't a loft in the house in Norfolk), we've got to be ruthless. I now have a room full of boxes and old bags...and several runs to that charity shop, and the tip.
A warm feeling at the end of a good days work...made happier when Burnley won promotion to the Premier League...so very well deserved. I hope the Sheffield fan I heard on the radio thinks on what he said, about being too big for the Championship...no one's ever too big to go or stay down...well, unless you're one of the four! I had that said to me by a fan, after we beat Sunderland, they thought we shouldn't have turned up either...
Now I really need to work...

Two down...
...and one to go!
So far my wishes and predictions have come good...which is somewhat unusual for me, usually fate dictates the team I want to win as a neutral, lose...but, Gillingham beat Shrewsbury, and Scunthorpe beat Millwall, but then maybe I wasn't such a neutral for those, having lived Gillingham way, and being a Charlton fan. Now we're left with today's fate...Burnley or Sheffield United...and I just can't bring myself to want Sheffield to win...and I've admired Burnley's sheer hard graft this season, and they deserve something more from it all...or it might be I just like Eagle's boyish grin and dark hair...over Mr Bean's slightly older one...
So yes, I want Burnley to win...there, more nailed to the proverbial mast!
Yesterdays end to the Premier League's season gave us a nail-biting climax, though maybe it was more predictable than commentators would have us believe. I can say, I'm glad I wasn't one of the fans... I did want Hull to survive, they deserve another bite of the cherry, and for all the commentators trying to make much of Manchester United's changed team, it still had several regular first team players in...and just to make those same commentators look idiots, ManU won!
And now there is one...one team left in the PL in the north east...seems quite remarkable really, given their utter support of their teams... There will be differences in what happens next at the two clubs...Newcastle fans want Ashley to go, for his handling of their beloved, even when he did do what they wanted, it was still his fault, and Middlesbrough fans...they have Gibson, and a fairer chairman (we are told) never lived. So, will Shearer stay to manage, with or without dear Dowie...I think yes, yesterday hurt him deeply...and as he said it was a whole season at fault (even their second messiah can't work every miracle), I think he'll want to be involved in re-establishing the clubs integrity for it's fans. Will Southgate still be at Middlesbrough is a different thing. He's had several seasons, rather than several matches, to get things right...he is/was working with his players...he sounds as though he's staying, but...and there's always that rather large but...will he be given more time and more resources? Some clubs you know it's a nailed on certainty one way or the other...with Gibson...it's, who knows! The local club that did remain up...Sunderland...have lost their manager. In a honest interview, their manager Ricky Sbragia resigned...his decision, so they can get a bigger name...how's that for a footballing ego. Others should take note...

Then the start of the official transfer window 1 July(players out of contract can be signed before), and finally the start of the season...8 August...and the teams we're playing...

...being reported in some quarters, that after ex-Charlton player Madjid Bougherra became Rangers player of the season, he is supposedly recommending his fellow countryman to them...in the shape of Hameur Bouazza... Rangers are reportedly considering it!

Kings Lynn FC...
...were demoted, but have lodged an appeal with the Conference and have instructed lawyers to fight on their behalf.
To add insult to injury the Conference allowed Hampton and Richmond to take their place in the play-offs, even though that club has failed to get planning permission or funding to build permanent terraced seating as required by the Conference.
It has been pointed out that no mention of demotion was received by the Linnets earlier in the season, and as the stadium is owned by the Borough Council...under guidelines, they would not have allowed anyone onto the site during work.
Further to that...it appears in informal talks the Conference are taking a hard line, and there is no flexibility in King's Lynns case, even though the Conference chairman has promised more in general...
The issue is, they are required to have six turnstiles(I don't know how many they currently have)...they have a ground clearance of 5300 with the present set up.
The local authority have said they were advised that starting work after the April 1 deadline would be fine, as long as it was a guaranteed start and would be completed before the start of next season, and have been in constant touch with the Conference, with never a mention of demotion or it not being satisfactory.

The local authority have said they were advised that starting work after the April 1 deadline would be fine, as long as it was a guaranteed start and would be completed before the start of next season, and have been in constant touch with the Conference, with never a mention of demotion or it not being satisfactory.

And they say...

Today has seen the fall into administration of another club, Stockport County have had ten points deducted, placing them within three points of the drop zone. Two players have been released by Norwich (by mutual consent)...Notts County let five go...Swindon reduce squad...Oldham have a new manager...Matt Holland would like to stay...and the list goes on.
Italian football is following the English game's lead, with Serie A breaking away from Serie B, and going it alone. Disagreement over finances is cited as the cause... It will be known as 'Lega Calcio Serie A'. Several Serie B clubs have already faced financial difficulties recently.
It seems a day in football is too! What the summer brings...it'll all go so fast!
Now just you wait until I start on the cricket season!

A week...
...in time.
It's been a bit of a busy week, but yet again not quite as planned. We made a quick visit to Norfolk on Monday morning to check a wayleaves issue, but it's as we thought, and not important...then across country to Coventry. Yes, we did go...and did see some doing the conga...whilst a few Coventry fans tried to get us to raise to the bait of taunting...but, after making fun of ourselves...there's nothing left for them to do, now is there?! And it was all fairly good natured anyway... We were home inside two hours...
We've heard that things with the move are getting along, though why the solicitor had to ask a question when he'd already been advised of the answer...I guess that's what you're paying extra for! Everything for us personally is now in place...we just await for everyone else...
Yesterday I spent the day with my sister, and nephew...he's eighteen tomorrow...Happy Birthday to you! We had a lovely lunch...did some young man shopping, and then some for his Mum...I was sooo good...and didn't succumb, but have several items stored away in the memory banks for after the move. It was also my wedding anniversay...and I won't say who forgot! Just I hadn't...but...you love someone everyday, not just on that one, now don't you!?
So, tomorrow is Blackpool at home...nope, not the beach in the back garden, but the next match...we will probably be relegated, not because we WILL lose, but other results will make it final. I am not going to voice my opinions...I have them, and they differ to others...but, why inflict them on you!

Our game...
...on Saturday could be interesting. It'll be spot the Charlton player! With ex-Addicks popping up everywhere these days, Birmingham have their quota with...Lee Bowyer, Marcus Bent, Hameur Bouazza...and I'm sure a friendly and warm welcome will be given to each...
Lee Carsley, who was sent off against Wolves for a high and dangerous tackle on another old boy...Chris Iwelumo..(we do get around...or give around), is serving the first of a three match ban, but is that enough to help us? Or could we too have our own seventeen year old wonder kids? Following the exploits of Manchester's Italian youngster...we have at least one on the bench too, with Tamar Tuna being picked....oh, for the same...and Jonjo getting into the team...
And with that...I wish you all a happy holiday...

Want to...
...fill in the paperwork? All things have been set in motion, and now we're onto the solicitors forms. If we have to fill the same information on one, we have to on half a dozen...I'm getting writer's cramp.
I've also read the plight of our opposition on Saturday...their holding company (SLH) suspended trading on their shares yesterday, as it prepares to go into administration. So far, this is not the club as they look for a buyer...but, how long that will take...maybe too long. I wish all Saints fans well...there but for the grace... And as we've all said...players come and go, but you the fan, can't change your club...your heart is buried deep in the pitch.
The majority of their debt (approx £23.1m) is owed to Norwich Union in a debt incurred with the move to St Mary's, and with a reluctantly paying Barclays Bank (£4.4m)...they've been paying the players salaries. After all the things said about our directors and financial issues...we owe our directors the majority of our debt...the only outside one being on a long term arrangement...our situation might be the worst we've seen for a long time, but we're not that close to the edge, thanks to them...yet!
The game on Saturday, if hadn't already had enough incentive, has an added one...survival...a Championship side is more likely to encourage investors than a League One one...and I'm sure all associated with Southampton have that firmly at the forefront of their minds.

The cost...
...of following football, even non-league football is definitely a challenge for most supporters.
If...when...we move, our local clubs will be Fakenham Town (The Ghosts) of the Ridgeons Football League of which they seem to be bottom...not an unrecognisable position for a Charlton fan. Though they do have games in hand. They support the full range of ages, plus reserves and an A team. Unfortunately the ladies could not compete this season. Next is Swaffham Town (The Pedlars), Fakenham's closest rivals in towns and league...it being an East Anglian one.
The next is King's Lynn FC (The Linnets), who are in the Blue Square North league. They also support the whole range of ages, plus reserves and A team. They do have a ladies team, which won even though they could only raise ten fit players last match. I read with interest their prices for season tickets are being held...an adult in the stand will be charged £205 , otherwise it's £175 for the ground ticket, or £10 at the gate...concessions and children are less.
Football at any level is expensive...we wait to see what ours will be...

Our viewer...
...arrived twenty minutes early and was gone before he was due. He came, he looked, he asked questions and had another appointment, so was gone...it was like having a whirlwind visit... You also get paranoid about cars slowing as they pass your house, especially if they turn around and come across for a second look...and are holding a sheet or two of paper. It's a will they? Do they? Are they?
But, the viewer being so early did mean I could turn this on and put on the commentary for my team, and we were doing well...holding our own considering we're playing Wolves and they're top of the league to our bottom space....*and we've just scored!*...I was about to say they scored through our ex player Iwelumo and went into the lead at half-time. Now, it's 1-1...through Zheng Zhi, a player we've been missing nearly all season through injury.
We went to Molineux last season, were able to park the car next to the stadium...but, if anyone ever goes again and it's sunny...take your glasses and a baseball cap. The away fans are positioned in the worst place for the sun direction.
Back to the game...

I note...
...that the final game of the season has had it's kick off time changed by the Football League. But, hey...what's forty five minutes between friends. I also see it's being touted as a potentially crucial clash, it being against current fellow strugglers Norwich.
In our dreams it is! I know we have two games in hand on them, but...don't hold your breath for six points...they're still nine away.
And as a sideline, we are told their sponsors Norwich Union are now Aviva...you can hear it, can't you?
"A viva el Norwich!"

Someone must...
...have wished hard. My team won yesterday! And played well. The final score was 2 - 0...and we should have had more, but I'll settle for two. We didn't play so wide with a different midfield formation, but it worked, with our French midfielder Therry Racon being the best, he's unfortunately been out injured most of the season...but, you could see what we've been missing, a superb player, and he scored our first....a wow of a goal. Nicky Bailey also played well, even though he had a penalty in the second half well saved, and hit a shot high, but he came back and scored our second goal. Our front combination of Dickson and Kandol were a handful, full of speed and strength...and caused the Argyle defence no end of issues.
I hope a sense of satisfaction went through the team, after that performance they deserve that few minutes. After the final whistle the team joined the supporters in applauding each other, with Rob Elliott giving us a "Chrissy moment", and although he didn't get on the field, Matt Holland went to every player and shook his hand and gave him one of those man hugs...a player I've always liked, and a man I have total respect for.
Now we have to take that to Oakwell...Barnsley next weekend...a different kettle of fish, but another game we need to win, lets hope they can take yesterdays win forward to back to back wins.
We are still bottom, with a three point gap between us and Southampton. We have played the same number of games and have the same goal difference...they lost yesterday, as did Norwich, which keeps the lower part of the division huddled together...Watford and Barnsley have two games in hand, Norwich have played one more, Notts Forest lost yesterday and have played the same number as us...they're nine points above us in nineteenth position...I think the clubs still in trouble are from 35 points down to us on 25...with Derby being best placed on 35 from 30 games, below them are Argyle with 35 from 32....
We have to keep winning and to concentrate on our games...we have no leaway left.
Also, it seemed strange yesterday...my husband had to go into work in the morning, with the hope of getting to the game, but...nope...I watched on my own. We did have a nice evening though quiet.
The night was interesting too...without opening my eyes I could see flashing lights. I have no idea what time, but it was dark...very dark, and the thought that it was too late for gritters...then sometime later I was woken by a heavy lorry slowly driving past...my eyes flicked open and the clock read 4:19. I have a little window at my eye level which gives a view down the road...and there, I could see three lorries...peering closer, I could see they were fire engines, and could see a spiral of smoke. I haven't gone to check but I think the old barns and workshops caught fire. Luckily no one was in them, they're all closed up. After watching the fireman wandering around for an hour, I must admit I did close my eyes again.
Now I'm going to do some painting...I hope everyone had a lovely St Valentines Day....whatever you did...mine was special.
